I Want To Buy A Pepper Spray But My Husband Says "No"

"Dear Pepper Spray Center,

I want to buy a pepper spray and my husbands says no, because the pepper spray may explode, because it happened to my mother in law.

Is that true, can pepper sprays explode?

Thank you.
Kiana"

It's a great question, Kiana! Thank you!
So you want to know is it possible to have a safe experience carrying pepper spray.

Here is what you need to know:Dear Kiana,

Your husband's concern is meaningful and well grounded.

Pepper sprays in aerosol cans are not different from other aerosol-ed products, like bug spray or hair spray.
Under certain conditions exceeding their operational range they can leak.
We have never encountered a pepper spray can that literally exploded but we saw a number of reports of canisters losing their internal pressure because of some leaks.

We would not want to leave a regular canister in a car on a hot summer day, for example.
Even if it's "only" 100 F outside, the temperature inside the vehicle may reach 200 degrees F and up.
Under these conditions, the pressure inside the aerosol canister builds up to such a degree that the stress on all seams of the can becomes too much to bear. The canister pops a leak. The gas escapes. It could be called a small explosion.

What do you do?

1) Buy established brands (not a guarantee, of course, but better than the cheap ones)
2) Keep your pepper spray with you at all times (otherwise, how will it protect?)
3) If temperature range is a concern (you live in the South or way up North), buy PepperBlaster II device.

The Pepper Blaster is guaranteed to never leak (it just can't) and because of that it has the broadest operational temperature range of ALL pepper spray devices out there.

If you interested in the Pepper Blaster, here is the link to the product page.

Overall, in our opinion, for a lady, like yourself, the benefits of having a pepper spray protection in her disposal in the moment of aggression by far outweigh any inconveniences with the canister.

Look forward to seeing you back in the store,

Stun Gun For Street Fight?

stun gun for street fightStun gun is such a fascinating object.
Recently we got this question on the popular stun gun review in this blog:

"Hi ,
how many guys I can block by stunning them for 5-10 minutes with one charge of the battery .
thanks
Mark
"
This great question deserves its own post here. Read on...Hi Mark,

Thank you for your question!

First of all you do not need to "keep frying" your assailant with a stun gun for 5-10 minutes.
5 seconds will suffice to incapacitate a person and put even a large body to rest on the ground.
The reason for that is the way how stun guns work.
If an electric chair or a naked exposed wire sends strong electric current (several Amps) through the unfortunate victim's body, stun guns sends very little electric current (~0.003 A).

They do not produce damage to the live tissue by burning it, like a lightning would do.
The stun guns override the nervous system's impulses controlling body's muscles.
In a few seconds the stun gun sends so much disturbance into the muscle system that the muscle become extremely "overworked" and not capable to do anything anymore. The person can not stand, or sit, or move. The neuro-muscular system will restore its electro-chemical balance in 10-30 minutes and the person will recover from the stupor.

Considering that such a short application (5-7 sec) will take down one of your adversaries, in one minute time you can incapacitate 10-12 people. That's if they keep coming in a single file. If they start running away scared, it might take longer to chase them down :-)

A new battery in your stun gun does allow you to do that rather easily. If the battery was old or depleted the stun gun will not work properly, so it is to your advantage to keep battery in your stun gun fresh and strong. If it's a rechargeable battery -- keep it recharged, if it's a regular battery - replace it on a regular basis.

Hope it helps!
Stay Safe!

Does Pepper Spray Ever Go Bad?

Pepper Spray Goes Bad

Does the pepper spray go bad or lose its effect as it gets older?

I am purchasing these for friends and I will giving them the sprays through out the year for their birthdays, some are not until December.

Should I buy pepper spray now or wait?

Thanks,
Denise A.Dear Denise,

The pepper spray does not go bad but we do not recommend keeping it for over a year because some (!) canisters might loose pressure over time.
Nothing dramatic, but, if this is the case, after some time the range of the spray would be much smaller than normal.
In a dangerous situation every foot of safety for you is very important.
So just in case, change your pepper spray canister once a year.
The spray canisters are relatively cheap, and your safety is well worth it.
Think of it like changing batteries in your smoke detector.
Just do it.

As for your question about your friends' birthday presents, we would say buy pepper spray right before their birthdays to get maximum life span out of it.

Here is our advice in one sentence:
replace pepper spray once a year, carry it on your person at all times, know how to use it and don't be shy about it.

In this short video a self-defense expert Chemin Alldredge demonstrate what basic moves are necessary to develop in order to use the simplest can of pepper spray or mace.

The moves are misleadingly simple, most people think they can do it in their sleep…
Well, maybe in their sleep but not necessarily under pressure of a dangerous situation.
To make sure you can use your pepper spray effectively under any circumstances – PLEASE PRACTICE these basic moves.

Looks like a Cell Phone, stings like... a Stun Gun

Cellphone surprises, stun gun delivers.

cell phone stun gun flashlight combination
We wrote before how stun guns work from the science point of view. We also discussed how to use psychological impact of a stun gun in your favor. In brief: some stunguns are large, loud and intimidating, some even take a form of other weapons, like the Blast Knuckles, but some are deceivingly tiny and pretend to be harmless objects by design.

What strategy is best: to scare the approaching attacker away or catch the unfortunate assailant by surprise? Both strategies work: you can give an assailant a warning by firing your stun gun in the air and the electric discharge and the loud noise can be great deterrents that prevent violence. When they see that you are carrying a stun gun, they know you mean business and you are not an easy prey. You are better left alone.

On the other hand, if you have a simple item, like a cell phone, in your hand you are not attracting attention to yourself but at the same time your stun gun safety is off, your finger is on the discharge button and it's ready to fire in split second. The assailant comes close to you... semi-relaxed... imagining an easy win and... a million volts knocks the attacker down.

Hmmm... We let you decide what strategy is best for you.

It could be that the "stun gun as deterrent" would work best where one can expect a random attack from a random person. It makes sense for such a random predator to look for an easier target. But what about when the attack is not random and the assailant targets you specifically. Then a stun gun disguised as some everyday object could make the difference.
<a "href=http://www.pepperspraycenter.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&products_id=319">cell phone stun gun flashlight

If you favor the strategy of surprise, here is the new product for you: a cell phone stun gun.
It looks like a cell phone and packs up 1,000,000 (1 Million) volts of electricity.
That's a lot of volts, that's pretty much the maximum volts you can buy now.
Keep in mind, this stun gun does not function like a cell phone, the look is for deception only.

The cell phone stun gun also has a built-in flashlight with multiple blindingly bright LEDs.
It will be helping you on a dark street whether you need to avoid the attack or to walk around the puddle.

The cell phone stun gun comes with a carrying case and all necessary batteries.
It's ready to fire when the batteries are in.
The stun gun has a safety switch to prevent accidental discharge.
Do you want to buy this the cell phone stun gun?
Yes? <a href=#"http://www.pepperspraycenter.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&products_id=319">Click here... and remember you will get a free bottle of pepper spray as our gift to you!

What do you think is the best strategy with stun guns: a warning shot or a surprise delivery?

What do you do when your pepper spray or mace expires?

Every canister of pepper spray or mace expires one day. Do you know what to do next?
mace pepper spray expired

Yes, this happens to every owner of a pepper spray can. One day you looked at the expiration date on your trusted old can of Mace or Pepper spray and saw that the expiration date has already passed. Do you think throwing it in a trash bin is the best thing to do? -- Think again...
When pepper spray (or Mace spray) expires, or after 12 months after the purchase it would be prudent to replace your spray unconditionally and buy a new one.

Why?
Because every aerosol-based can of pepper spray (including mace) is prone to lose internal pressure overtime. The liquid pepper essence remains potent for ages but the propellant gas inside the canister (the gas pushes the spray out) does lose its pressure. When that happens the can does not shoot the spray anymore but just sputters it around. It's dangerous to rely on old cans because you can never be sure how it will perform when you need it the most.
It's much easier to replace it on regularly, every 10-12 months.

Good.. but what do you do with the old canister?

Excellent question!!!
It would be a good idea to use it for practice.
If the canister lost some pressure the range will be short but that's still ok for practice.
mace pepper spray test

-Take it outside and make sure there are no by-standers around.
-Make a quick "target" for your practice: it could be a lamp post, or a tree, or a spot on the wall.
-If it's windy, determine where the wind is blowing from and make sure to spray down wind.
-Approach your target, when you are 5-8 feet from it, engage your spray and try to hit the target with the stream coming out of the canister.
-Empty your old canister fully.

After this, place the canister in a plastic bag carefully, close the bag and discard it securely, so no children can touch it.

Remember to get a replacement mace or pepper spray first!

Pepper spray, room alarm and a personal siren for students' safety.

pepper spray for student self-defense
Movable safety for students: Pepper spray, personal siren and room alarm.

Students are back to colleges and campuses and parents are back to worries about well-being of their kids away from home.
What do they eat? do they have everything they need? do they study well? whom do they date?
Sounds somewhat familiar?

We do not even pretend to list all parents' worries here, there are many.
However there is one that we have to mention nowadays: are they safe around the campus and in school?
We can help to calm this worry: here is what we've got for the students' safety...In a few days our students will get back to the school environment where certain things can not be taken for granted anymore.
When home, they don't have to think about someone breaking in while they are asleep, for example.
Some colleges, that shall not be named, got infamous notoriety because of either multiple repeated assaults on students or outright grizzly rapes, kidnapping and murders that happened on their campuses.

What can we do to help students to have reasonable everyday safety?
If you have not seen it yet, please check the Student pepper spray safety kit.

pepper spray door alarm personal siren for students

This is what's inside and why it is there:
- 2 cans of pepper spray.
Both cans are pocket size (1/2 oz) and can be carried on the keychain. Why 2 cans? Because we strongly recommend to spend one can of pepper spray PRACTICING. Yes, pulling out the can out of a purse or a pocket is a every simple movement... when you are relaxed and not in danger. When under pressure even habitual movements are hard to make because your body's muscles seize up from fear.
So in danger if you did not practice the action before, it becomes very hard to pull out the pepper spray can, aim it and press the release button.
Please do yourself a favor - spend one can practicing. In this kit pepper spray is very cheap, so please practice.

- A door stop, room alarm
When yo go to bed simply put this wedge-shaped alarm under your door. You will sleep well that night because you know that when somebody tries to open the door you will know about it. Actually the whole neighborhood will be notified , the alarm is very loud. It also acts as a door jam, getting the door stuck on its wedge. It's battery operated, so power failures and blackouts are not a problem.

- Personal alarm whistle
This is another small tool that you can wear on a keychain, in your purse or pocket. Just like the pepper spray, keep it with you at all times. In some situations you might find that getting attention from by-standers and passer-bys is a better way to get out of the danger zone. The tiny whistle produces a mighty screeching siren so all heads will turn toward you and may be a great deterrent against a possible assault. It weighs next to nothing and it is very easy to operate.

Know other students or their parents who's concerned about their safety on campus.

Please click here and tweet this post to them!
They will thank you!

We did not include any stun guns or tasers in this students' safety kit for a reason. Some campuses prohibit possession of stun guns on campuses even if the state allows it. Pepper sprays on the other hand are ok and sometimes even encouraged. Some campuses even give classes on how to use pepper spray. We know because we sponsored some of them.

Stay Safe!
Philadelphia, PA, September 1 -- Media outlets in Philadelphia published an attempted sexual assault story that happened in the Rittenhouse Square neighborhood. 21 year old girl was returning home from a nearby pizza place and, when entering the building where she lived, she was attacked by a person armed with a knife. What happened next took the assailant by surprise:... The brave girl fought for her life and her dignity, she took out a can of mace and sprayed the assailant in the face.
Dazed and shocked by pain that pepper spray generated, the guy pulled back and was able to punch the girl in the face but then, realizing that without vision and in ever increasing pain he can not do anything and will soon be arrested, just took off and fled the scene.

The brave girl is only 21. She did not want to put up with this threat and fought back with all she got.
If she had nothing she would've fought as fiercely with her teeth and nails but luckily, she had a can of mace pepper spray.
She used it and she is alive.
Yes, she got punched in the face and likely she's bruised now but the bruises will go away soon.
Her dignity and life are definitely worth a few bruises.

This story shows how a simple device, like a can of pepper spray or mace, improves your odds tremendously in a hostile encounter.
Your assailant can still walk and throw punches but he is no longer on top of the situation.
After being sprayed with mace or pepper spray, his focus has totally changed from rape to his own survival.
The would be rape victim is no longer of any interest to that person, his vital functions, like breathing and vision, are now of his utmost concern. That is what gives you an opportunity to escape the danger zone.

Here is the link to the video of the girl's father saying: "We were thanking God that she was okay[...]She's tough. She'll defend herself."

Farewell to Taser M-18

Today we said farewell to the product that for many years was the Taser®, the one and only taser available to consumers: the famous M-18 model.
Taser M-18
Taser International, the manufacturer of the device, discontinued the device some weeks ago and all existing supplies of tasers have been sold. Today it disappeared from the pages of our catalog. Read more...

The big, the bad and the... "beauty challenged" M-18 was available in 2 configurations: with a laser sight or with 2 extra air cartridges. These two options let you either aim better or shoot more.

Taser M-18 can be likened to another technological marvel: Walkman.
The M-18 is to Taser C2 what Walkman is to iPod.
walkmanipod

We did not know any better and we were happy to accept it for what it indeed was: superb protection with 15 foot range and "higher instant incapacitation rate than a 9mm hand gun", as the original marketing piece said.
The old buddy was claimed to be a "quantum leap in stopping power via new Electro-Muscular Disruption (EMD) technology".
Since then, the taser technology made several steps forward and now we can take down "bad guys" with more elegance.

Just look at the C2 model and you will understand why:
To top design elegance with comfort also consider buying the holster for C2 with build-in MP3 player.

The old M-18 will not be forgotten and will not be missed.
Get a new Taser C2 model instead.
